It’s the third week for the month of May and the Vernal (Spring) Equinox is well underway for the northern hemisphere of the world.  Although, as always with mother nature, some places may still be experiencing cooler temperatures.  In any case, let’s get to the reviews of just a few of the many products on our site you may want to bless your eardrums with.

The first review comes from DJ Jabriel with the release labeled “OMO28”.  He uses the tagline of #FixYaFaceRadio on his mixtapes.  As it states on the cover artwork, this product contains exclusives, blends, custom remixes, and trap music by Lil Uzi Vert, Fabolous, Bryson Tiller, Chief Keef, Young Dolph, TK-N-Cash, Drake, Max B, Styles P, Ella, Lil Durk, Ty Dolla $ign, Kodak Black, Tink, Shy Glizzy, Bankroll Fresh, and others on this 43 song playlist.  One of the tracks on this drop is by Dreezy featuring Jeremih titled “Body”.  This record has been receiving many spins recently and a video for it was just released on May 16th.  See what you think about it below.

Next, in this blog post, is a release by DJ Rell called “Trap Religion”.  You can tell by the title that this product will contain mostly southern tracks.  Look for free mp3 downloads on this dirty south feature by Famous Dex, Birdman, Lil Yachty, Young Dro, Webbie, Gucci Mane, Quavo, Ralo, Future, Desiigner, Peewee Longway, Boyd, Rich The Kid, Stick, iLoveMakonnen, Skippa Da Flippa, Boosie Badazz, and many other down south performers.

Finally, comes a review from one of the best DJs in the game, Big Mike.  You can always expect this Connecticut guy to bring you some of the best mixtapes in the game.  He’s back with another installment in the franchise labeled “Soundtrack To The Streets”.  The “Greatest Of All Time Edition” pays tribute to recently retired LA Lakers player, Kobe Bryant.  The basketball great ended his 20-year career at the end of the regular NBA 2015-2016 season.  Big Mike brings you free music downloads on this volume from Styles P, Jim Jones, Rich Homie Quan, Dave East, Action Bronson, Nas, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Spectacular, Tory Lanez, Compton Menace, Uncle Murda, Young Thug, Lil Durk, and other top emcees on this 16 song playlist.

Hip Hop and RnB Playlist

The first week of May is behind us, as well as the Mexican holiday of Cinco De Mayo.  Since that day begun on Thursday, the extravaganza was probably an all-out weekend event for some.  People in the United States might mistake the holiday as Mexico’s Independence day, but that’s not the case.  Their Independence Day falls on September 16th.  May 5th in the U.S.A. can be linked to a celebration of Mexican-American culture, so the best way to enjoy the festivities is by knocking back a few corona’s with your pals.  Maybe Billy Idol will even come through with a “White Wedding” to keep the party going?  In any case, here a few of the best mixtapes on the internet to help you continue on with your holiday leisure or aid in winding down all the hoopla.

DJ Cortez brings along DJ Mellz with the 26th release of the “Futuristic R&B” music download franchise.  This DJ definitely has a knack for the slow jams with this series.  Look for tracks on this 20 song playlist by industry favorite recording artists such as Jacob Latimore, Keke Wyatt, Lil Kaige, Fetty Wap, Kid Ink, Alicia Keys, Eric Bellinger, Spectacular, Verse Simmonds, Rihanna, Ambre, and many others.  If you’re looking for other releases in this collection, you can always use the website’s search engine.  We made it even easier by adding a function to the site which allows you to browse all of the selections by using the “Suggested Mixtapes” feature located below the audio players.  If you’re on mobile, just swipe left or right to cycle through the products.

Next, is a drop in the “Streetcorner Gangstas” collection by Massachusetts native DJ Kurupt.  This edition is sub-titled “Respeck” which comes from Birdman’s brief appearance on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club”.  Emcees showcased on this installment include T.I., Shad Da God, Ace Hood, B.o.B., Future, 5ive Mics, Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Lucci, Johnny Cinco, Nispey Hu$$le, O.T. Genasis, Waka Flocka, French Montana, Nas, and others on this 27 song playlist.  You probably already heard about all the ridicule aimed at Birdman, but if you missed the Cash Money Records CEO storming out of the interview, replay the fiasco below.

DJ Blurray is back with another “Chopped Not Slopped” edition in the series titled “Between Tha Sheetz” presented by OG Ron C, The Chopstars, and Mixtapes Slayer Entertainment.  This release contains free mp3 downloads by Tinashe, Ray-J, Tory Lanez, Jacquees, Jon Locke, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Eric Bellinger, Kirko Bangz, Jamie Foxx, Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Keith Sweat, Mila J, and other top musicians.  You don’t want to miss out on this one, as this DJ is one of the best in the business to chop up slow jams.  He also screwed two throwback tracks by Ginuwine and Usher.  Break out the roses, chocolate, and lean for this release.

Finally, we head down south to “The Sunshine State” with a feature by The Syndicate.  The 3rd installment in the music session called “Florida Boyz” is powered by Street Runnaz Clothing.  Look for free music downloads on this 15 song playlist by Rick Ross, Plies, Kent Jones, Cee-Lo Green, Denzel Curry, Gunplay, Young Breed, Future, T-Pain, Richie Weiss, OG Maco, Jacquees, Kodak Black, and YFN Lucci.  Flip through the site and check out all of the releases this month by The Syndicate.

Summer vacation is right around the corner, but make sure you don’t slack off and put full effort into finishing your classes.  No matter what happens in life, an education will always make for a better and brighter future.  Be sure to congratulate your fellow peers for a job well done this year!

Hip Hop Playlist

Welcome back to another blog post reviewing some of the best music currently in rotation right now.  We would also like to let all of our users know that the site is now fully mobile responsive.  It has always been mobile compatible, but now there is no need to zoom in and out.  The content will adjust to fit your screen for a much better browsing experience while picking up all your favorite free music downloads.

The streets are always talking about Max B and the man who always used the phrase “wavy”.  He is currently in jail serving a 75-year prison term after losing an appeal on a previous 8-year sentencing.  Had he not try to appeal that conviction, he would have been out of jail by now.  The reason he is currently incarcerated is because even though he wasn’t at the scene of a hotel robbery that turned into a murder, he was convicted on also being in on the plan to commit the robbery.  There was recent talk about Kanye West naming his name album “Wave”, but did not release it with that title.  That prompted Max B to do a song over the phone from prison titled “Stealin My Wave”.  You can find this track on the product labeled “The Wave God” along with 24 classic free mp3 downloads by the wavy emcee.  The best part about this drop is that these tracks contain no DJ shout outs.

The first quarter of 2016 started off with a few official street releases from popular music artists.  DJ KaySlay aka “The Drama King” is back with a certified project labeled “50 Shades Of Slay”, similar to the popular movie title.  The music download playlist on this release contains tracks by hardcore emcees such as Dave East, Papoose, Raekwon, Ransom, Vado, JR Writer, Oun-P, Sheek Louch, Maino, Lock Smith, Termanology, Neek Bucks, Charlie Clips, The Game, Freeway, Trick Trick, and much more.  DJ KaySlay keeps to his roots by dropping this gutter product.

That’s it for this edition of song reviews.  Please remember to spread the word about the best site on the internet for free music downloads.  If you’re looking to have you work featured on our site, please go here to find out more info.

Download Free Music and Featured Mixtapes

Buymixtapes.com carries only the best products, but these are some of the top ones just added this week to stream and download free.  The first showcases Los Angeles, California emcee Kendrick Lamar and is titled “King Kendrick”.  Artists featured alongside the west coast rapper such as Young Jeezy, Ab-Soul, Flying Lotus, Jasmine V, Mike Will Made It, Future, Lil Wayne, SZA, Alicia Keys, Blue The Misfit, YG, Tame Impala, Rozzi Crane, and Imagine Dragons.  After listening to this you will notice that Kendrick Lamar has an alternative rap style, much the same as alternative rock in the 1990s.

Next is by the Corporate Thugz Entertainment leader, Young Jeezy, and is titled “You Already Snow” taken from his nickname as “The Snowman”.  This title plays you 12-tracks of his latest music with appearances by Kendrick Lamar, August Alsina, Future, Wiz Khalifa, The Game, Rick Ross, Slicc Pulla, Bando Jonez, Kelly Rowland, Jay-Z, Stak5, Rocko, T.I., and Ne-Yo.

Gucci Mane is back to release his yearly mixtape that he drops on October 17th (10/17) which coincides with his label 1017 Brick Squad Records.  This is the 3rd edition of the “Trap God” series.  This release is 17-tracks with only one guest appearance by Chief Keef on the track “Start Pimpin”.

Up next is DJ Diggz with a legendary drop hosted by Max B titled “Ebola Flow”.  Max B is currently serving a 75 year prison sentence for conspiracy to armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and murder.  The so wavey rapper has 5-tracks including the intro.  2 of the tracks being new as he freestyles from prison.  Most of the time when rappers freestyle from prison over the phone, the quality is very poor, but that doesn’t seem to be the case on the 2 new tracks, the quality is actually very good.  Other notable artists on this east coast title include G-Unit, The Lox, Ransom, Jim Jones, Prodigy, Un Pacino, Cassidy, Kool G Rap, Memphis Bleek, Jadakiss, French Montana, Chinx Drugz, Smoke DZA, Hell Rell, and other hip hop music artists.

The release titled “BK Gangstas” showcases music from newest emcee Bobby Shmurda and leader of B.S.B. Records, Troy Ave.  Bobby Shmurda shot to rap music fame with the tracks “Shmoney Dance” and “Hot Nigga”.  This features 3 different remixes of the track with artists such as Fabolous, Jadakiss, Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes, Troy Ave, and a reggae remixed version featuring Jah X, Junior Reid, Movado, and Popcaan.  Other guest appearances with the 2 rappers from Mack Milly, Rowdy Rebbel, Maino, Meek Mill, Waka Flocka, The Real Infinity, Wale, Uncle, Murda, and other top hip hop acts.

The final mixtape to be reviewed is by the Cocaine Music Group head honcho, Yo Gotti, and is titled “Gotti’s Way”.  This release gives you 18-tracks of the dirty south rapper’s latest music.  Features from artists such as Fabolous, Jadakiss, Chris Brown, Mexico, Teyana Taylor, Tyga, Lil Bibby, Big K.R.I.T., Kevin Gates, K. Camp, Gucci Mane, and much more.

These are just a few of the titles we have available to play and download free, so do yourself a favor and log-on today to check out our wide selection of music.  You won’t be disappointed!

The Different Types Of Mixtapes

hip hop, trap, blend, instrumental, and r&b mixtapes
various genres of mixtapes available

There are many ways a music compilation can be put together.  Some DJs even release projects that are entirely blends.  A blend is when the acapella of a popular song is mixed together with an instrumental of another popular song.  This produces a new sound.  Some of these blends are great and some you will want to pass on and skip to the next track.  A few of the popular mixtape blend DJs are DJ Vlad, DJ Cinema, DJ Ty Boogie, and Mista Rello & Jadel.  Although blend projects are not as popular now as they were about 6-7 years ago, DJs continue to release them.

Another mixtape format is a ‘best of’ mixtape.  Some DJs can produce these mixtapes consisting of 100+ tracks.  Since 100 tracks is over 80 minutes of music, which is well over the standard 80 minute CD, these tracks can only be around 1 minute long.  Even though the songs are so short, it is a sample of the featured artist’s musical work and makes for a great listening experience.  One of the most popular DJs to do these types of products is Rob E Rob.  He has released many ‘best of’ drops consisting of over 70+ tracks.  For a DJ to be able to release a mixtape with that many songs by an artist also tells you that this person is serious about their music career.  If they already have a greatest hits mixtape with that many songs, then they have a bright and lucrative future in the music industry.

One method for a hip hop music artist to be recognized in the mixtape community is to freestyle over the beat of a popular song.  Some artists rely solely on this to gain acceptance and recognition in the hip hop community.  Well-known artists do this to show they can take a popular song, flip it to their style and be able to make it a hit record as well.  This was the primary format used in the beginning on mixtapes.  Fabolous would do this to show he can take a popular song and make it even better with his style of rap.  Music artists still do this today, but it is not used as heavily as it once was.  Also freestyles are not very long, the majority only lasting around 1 minute and 30 seconds on average.  Today, artists will record full original songs with original beats as they would for a retail album and release them on these music compilations.  These products are official releases to let the public know that it is not just some product consisting of the artist’s music released by a DJ without their knowing.  Many of these drops exist to try and hype up the DJ as having exclusive access or content when they really do not.

Mixtapes and How They Can Help Music Artists

There are many artists who have been discovered through these products and have landed major recording deals. One of the first who was featured on many DJ Clue releases was Fabolous. His real name is John David Jackson and is from Brooklyn, New York. He first appeared on DJ Clue drops in 1995 and after that was featured on many of his projects. His slick freestyles and catchy jingles is what landed his a recording deal with Elektra Records. He ended up releasing 6 albums and is still going hard in the underground scene. Just this past December of 2013 he released his 3rd official feature in the series titled ‘The Soul Tape’. This series alone solidifies his presence in the rap music genre, as well as the underground game.

One of the most notable and famous rap artists to be signed to a major recording deal after being discovered through mixtapes is Curtis Jackson better known as 50 Cent. He is well known as the rapper who was shot 9 times and did not die. His first retail album was ‘Power of the Dollar’ in 2000, but it was never released. After this, he resorted to distributing his music to the streets and then finally landed a million dollar deal with Eminem on Shady Records in 2002. Before he released the highly acclaimed ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’ in 2003, 50 Cent released about 4 features consisting solely of him and his G-Unit crew. G-Unit was comprised of 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo. The projects he released in the following order were ’50 Cent is the Future’, ‘No Mercy, No Fear’, ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Automatic Gunfire’. A few weeks after his highly successful ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’ album was released to retail markets, he dropped another mixtape titled ‘Bulletproof’. All of these drops were hosted by DJ Whoo Kid who was just as famous as G-Unit at the time. 50 Cent’s fame helped launch Whoo Kid’s DJ Career. 50 Cent went on to have an excellent career in music even though it did not last as long as anticipated. Most of his wealth was acquired from Vitamin Water which was sold to Coca-Cola for 4 billion dollars. His share in the health drink was 250 million dollars. 50 Cent also went on to release a retail album with his G-Unit crew entitled ‘Beg for Mercy’. The artist Young Buck was added to G-Unit after Tony Yayo became incarcerated. Another rapper that was eventually signed to G-Unit because of his freestyle material was west coast music artist The Game, who is now known as just Game. G-Unit and Game had their differences and split. Eventually Young Buck also followed and split from G-Unit.
